Banjo Man
WWI-1040
Called By
Sam Rowan
Opener, Middle Break, and Closer
Sides Face Grand Square,
He came rollin' into Dallas in a big old double trailer diesel rig,
He had a worn out banjo case tucked beneath his arm as he walked in
Allemande Left and Weave
The boys in the band all looked as he was dressed like a bum right off the street
Swing and Promenade
He strolled up to the bandstand, laid a dollar down,
And wondered if we'd mind (if he sat in)
Figure
Carousel Promenade* (32 beats) Pick that banjo son!
Heads/Sides Square Thru Four Hands around you do, Swing and Promenade!
He made you feel like you were part of Faded Love and Cheating Heart,
And topped it off with Rose of San Antone!
Tag
Circle Left! And then he played...
*Carousel Promenade: (NOTE: EACH MAN ONLY DANCES WITH THE LADY HE STARTS THE FIGURE WITH), 4
Ladies Star Right Three Quarters (in the middle) while the Men Promenade One Quarter (around the outside),
Courtesy Turn with the person you meet (slightly under turn the courtesy turn such that the couple smoothly blends to
a promenade), Everyone Promenade just One Quarter (each couple is paired as in the start of the figure now, but
geographically across the square from home).
Repeat the figure. The result is everyone has returned to the exact spot at which the Carousel Promenade began.
Styling tip: Although the men love to stand and watch the ladies (LOL), as soon as the ladies start their right-hand star
the men MUST start their one quarter promenade.
